Cookie Mixes as Gifts

The following mixes make excellent Christmas, holiday and birthday presents. Package the mix in a beautiful jar, then make a nice handmade card with the instructions attached, and you have a nice handmade gift that will get used!

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookie Gift Mix
1 3/4 c unbleached white flour * 1 t baking powder * 1 t baking soda * 1/4 t salt * 3/4 c brown sugar * 1/2 c white sugar * 1/4 c cocoa * 1/2 c chopped pecans * 1 c semi-sweet chocolate chips

In a wide mouth 1 quart canning jar, pour in by layers, the brown sugar, then white sugar, then cocoa, then nuts, then chocolate chips. Pack it down as much as you can. In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder and soda, and salt. Pour on top of other ingredients in the jar. It will be tight, but you can make it fit. Make a note attached to the jar that includes the following instructions: Empty contents of the jar into a bowl and lightly mix together, then add ¾ c softened butter, 1 slightly beaten egg, and 1 t vanilla. Mix together and then make into little balls and place 2 inches apart on parchment paper on a cookie sheet (or just oiled cookie sheet). Bake at 350 degree for 10-13 minutes. Cool on wire racks.
