Kirsten Anderberg's URBAN ADVENTURES:
La Conchita in Ventura County, CA

La Conchita is a really interesting town. It is nestled in a little pocket along the Pacific Coast Highway, between a high hill and the ocean. One of the oddest things about La Conchita is the warning sign at the entrance of the town, placed there by the U.S. Geological Survey. It warns you take your life into your own hands by entering the town as it has an historical pattern of deadly mudslides. But once past that daunting warning sign, this very small town, which is composed of only a dozen or so streets which extend back 1-3 blocks, is quite beautiful. Avocado orchards line the back hills of the town, which used to have a popular banana farm, before the town was deemed too dangerous to host visitors.
