Kirsten Anderberg's URBAN ADVENTURES: Mentryville in Pico Canyon, CA

Mentryville is a small reproduction of an old Wild West town. It is abandoned now, but for its function as a park but it has old buildings which were on the property during the oil boom era of the 1850's-early 1900's. It is a stunning drive into Pico Canyon, from I-5 in Newhall. The geology is amazing and if you go in the late afternoon, the sun casts a golden hue on everything. The old buildings at Mentryville are fun to look at and there is a hiking trail that goes behind Mentryville, into Pico Canyon, which was one of Southern CA's first productive oil fields.
