San Miguel Island
San Miguel Island in 1930 on the left, when non-native animals overgrazed and reduced it to a "barren lump of sand," according to the National Parks Service. On the right is San Miguel Island in 2000, 30 years after the removal of non-native animals, natural vegetation has returned and has begun to stabilize the island. San Miguel Island is located in Santa Barbara County. This island is currently part of the National Parks system and there are public chartered boats to the island from Ventura and Channel Island Harbors from May through October. More to come shortly...
