Here is a view of Seattle right now from the Space Needle Web Cam! You can also use this web cam system to look at live pictures
of many Seattle landmarks and neighborhoods, including Bremerton, Capital Hill, the Cascade Mountain Range, Lake Washington, Mount Rainier, Lake Union, the Ferries, the Olympic Mountains,
downtown Seattle, Alki Point, the University of Washington, Queen Anne, Pioneer Square, and more!
There is an amazing archive of notes detailing the history of Seattle's City Parks, at
http://www.seattle.gov/parks/history/sherwood.htm.
This set of handwritten notes talks about the building, procurement, natural history, etc. of many Seattle landmarks, from 1916-1981. The notes are full of interesting things like Cowen/Ravenna Park,
used to have glacier run off streams that went into Green Lake, and the Ravenna Ravine was carved out by glaciers! They talk of
Tuesday night jazz concerts in Kinnear Park! Learn about Seattle's history through this unusual source!
There are a ton of things to do while you are visiting Seattle (or even if you live here!) You can rent a rowboat and check out Lake Washington, you can ride a
bike 3 miles
around Green Lake, or rent a paddleboat for the lake, or visit the Reflexology Path at John Bastyr's Naturopathic College, or experience one of the region's street
fairs in the
summertime! Seattle's street fairs offer street performers, unique
crafts, and an unusual open air market environment. Or you can take a ferry over to one of the beautiful islands closeby for a picnic lunch.(The WA State Ferry System is the largest
ferry system in the country and WA's #1 tourist attraction.)
Many artists call Seattle "Home"...The Stepvan above, painted and designed by Larry Steiner (notice the wings on top), was spotted
on a Seattle street...
Below are some of the things I like to do in Seattle...
The above sculpture of an adult and child whale at Seattle Center uses the lawn as the sea, and sits beside the musical fountain at the center of the Center...
Spend a day at Seattle Center "The Center" hosts a wonderful small-scale Children's Museum, a musical fountain with sky-high plumes, the Science Center with its butterfly house, and
the world-famous Space Needle leftover from the World's Fair in the 1960's (that my parents attended)...
Spend a day on the Seattle Waterfront... You can take a ferry to nearby islands from downtown Seattle every hour! I love to take ferries late at night, and also to have picnics *on* the ferries, with no real destination but
to hang out on the water a while...Check out this live webcam of Coleman Dock downtown, where you get ferries to Vashon, Bainbridge, and Bremerton!
Spend a day at the Seattle's Pike Place Market... An anarchist bookstore, an herbal apothecary, big clown shoes in a giant shoe museum, street performers, and more!
SEATTLE SLANG:
"U District" = University District
"The Ave" = University Way NE
"The U," "UW," or "UDub" = University of Washington
"The Ship Canal" = Lake Union
"The Market" = The Pike Place Market
Spend a day in Seattle's University District... Classic vaulted ceilings and unusual saint statues, a medicinal herb garden, a great museum, and more...

The U Street Fair happens the third weekend of every May! And the weekend after that is the
NW Folklife Festival at Seattle Center. And the 3rd weekend in June is the infamous
Fremont Street Fair...You can find
pictures and stories about NW performers on my Buskers Page!
