The day's energy was focused by the many mobilizing personalities at the event, including organizer Chantal Sundaram and speaker Kike Roach. Naturally there were representatives from Artists Against War (whose event, "One Big kNOw" takes place tomorrow at Metro Hall), the International Socialists (whose annual conference on Marxism is coming up May 11-14), International Bolshevik Tendency (who have done a really comprehensive book on the Mumia Abu Jamal's trial and the affidavits etc behind his current petitions). The Unite H.E.R.E. choir had some incredible arrangements, Bomba roused the crowd with some international style call-and-response and I ran into political artists the Red Menace and Sarah Marlowe.
Joy Thompson and I played a ten minute set of hasty collaborations. Joy moved the room with her soulful guitar and vocals on remixed versions of Doctor's Office and Dark Days Ahead, and I dropped pieces of Once a Warrior, Been There and One of These Days. I really vibed with Joy onstage so you may be seeing us together again soon.
The speaking portion was followed by a march (banners, chants, cold fingers, warm spirits), and I hope to get some pictures to post here at some point.
