Artists' Play, formerly a monthly cabaret for independent artists, grown to a biweekly event. This was an exciting night for me. The first performance of a collaboration with Andreah Hunt of DLNW (Dance Like Nobody's Watching) on a piece called These Bones. I've been wanting to work with Andreah for the longest time and now that it's happening, the outcome is better than I could have imagined. There's a kind of interdisciplinary bleed happening that I'm looking forward to exploring further. You can see the piece's next manifestation at Artists' Play Studio Theatre on April 29, 3006.
After I got over our performance, I got the chance to enjoy an incredible pastiche with spontaneous visual art by Michael Janzen, trumpet by Pierre Mongeon and dance by Elizabeth Dawn Snell and Jason VanStone.
Singer/songwriter Shawn Sage did a charming and funny set, closing with the crowd all-in on his tune about making a scene on the Danforth. Shawn has a CD out called One of the Good Guys (which he is), which features the track Marijuana & Alcohol (which he likes).
Rock/alternative trios (that's right, trios - three talented guys; two different arrangements) Etch and Superego played a couple of sets and jammed to the tune of some shaking hips.
